Not only is this a wonderful DIY project, but it’s also a great way to teach kids about the benefits of natural ingredients and the joys of creating something from scratch. So, grab your ingredients, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get started! 🌱

What You Will Need:

  • 100g lemon balm or mint leaves (or mix 2 different herbs – each herb has its own special benefits)
  • 100ml olive oil / coconut oil
Beeswax (use 1 part wax to 3 parts oil after double boiling the mixture)
  • 10 drops of vitamin E oil

Steps:

  • Pick your herbs. We used lemon balm and sage.
  • Blend or chop your hand picked herbs and mix with olive / coconut oil.
  • Heat gently: Put the mixture in a heatproof jar and double boil for about 2 hours.
  • Keep the water simmering, not boiling.
  • Strain the oil: Use a muslin cloth to strain out the herbs. Let the strained liquid sit for at least 4 hours (overnight is best) to let the oil and water separate.
  • Collect the oil: Carefully pour the oil into a clean jar, leaving any water behind.
  • Melt the beeswax: Grate beeswax and add it to the oil in a 1:3 ratio (wax to oil). Double boil until the wax is fully melted.
  • Add vitamin E: Let the mixture cool slightly, then stir in 10 drops of vitamin E oil.
  • Pour and set: Pour the mixture into small containers and let it cool completely.

Optional: Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil for a minty scent.
